* Psychological Health and Wellbeing There has been a steadily increasing focus on workplace psychological health and wellbeing over the past decade. Workplace health and safety legislation now applies equally to the psychological dimension of the work environment Many organisations show uncertainty about how to appropriately respond and a number of key challenges across the intervention spectrum.
Mental Health Plan and Program Does your organisation have?
  • An inadequate focus on prevention where the core hazards involve psychosocial work organisational climate or culture.
  • Unrealised early intervention potential for dealing with psychological health concerns and avoidance by managers in appropriately responding to and managing at‑risk employees
  • A tendency to view workplace psychological health and wellbeing initiatives as a hindrance to core business
  • A ‘hands off’ approach in return-to-work programs and treatment where psychological health issues are involved, as compared with physical injuries
  • Tolerate passive medical management and highly variable quality of psychological interventions provided for work-related psychological health problems. At times contributing towards excessive levels of ‘medically unnecessary disability’.

If this risk has been identified as requiring controls to be put in place or existing controls improved, then… start with a plan. The plan will provide a strategy for the organisation to continue to develop a mentally healthy workplace. It will identify what you are currently doing well and the areas that require improvement. Actions will be identified across three broad areas:Raising awareness of mental health conditions and reduce stigmaSupporting people with a mental health conditionCreating a positive working environment where risks to mental health are reduced* Surveys Integral to safety governance an organisation must measure the effectiveness of its safety programs and audit and support mechanisms in the workplace. It is not enough to simply have policies, systems and processes. They must be vigorously reinforced to the point where they become embodied in the culture of the workplace. The attitudes of Management, Supervision and Staff are all canvassed in this survey and the analysis is done to determine which element or elements are the primary contributors to at risk behaviour. The aims are to identify the types of predominantly behavioural/cultural caused incidents and the likely future incidents. A prevention strategy can then be put in place.A number of risk management and H&S surveys are available from SHP. We will deliver the correct combination of survey questions for your needs.
Workers Compensation Self-Insurance (SI) – Australia Specific Feasibility study to become SI and SI start-up assistance e.g. meeting self-insurance licence OHS requirements
